Version 2.0 in the works!


Hello!

Several months ago I started tinkering on some new  ideas for NTTD. I have several features in the works, some of which you might see, most which you won’t. I am still sticking to making a game that you can whip out and play in a lunch break so I am very careful to not try and turn this into a full-blown RPG, or something that competes with games like Four Against Darkness or D100 Dungeon (both fantastic games). However, I also want there to be enough variety so that the game won’t become stale too soon.

One thing that I’m working on is to help get the game to a more predictable end. It is very possible currently to just keep playing until the page has no more space for rooms and it has always bothered me.

Another thing is formatting. Ah yes, good old formatting. It is an endless struggle for me and I will keep plugging away at it until I’m happy with the layout. Needless to say I have learned a lot of the course of the past few years and especially the past few months about getting formatting to work for you and not against you. I still hate it though. 🥲

One important thing that I knew I had to do is also remove the AI generated art. Since I started developing NTTD the discussion about AI art has changed significantly, especially with regards to its use in tabletop games. I have thus made the decision to remove all of it. On the plus side, the art that will replace them is hand-drawn by one of the most talented indie designers and artists working in this space. This will give the game a more coherent look overall. But more on that at another time.


In any case, I’m excited to be working on NTTD again and hope to have something to show you all soon.

This is exceptional news and I'm eager to see the new developments. NTTD is one of the fastest and clearest dungeon crawls I've come across, congratulations!

I'm really excited about the changes too and I can't wait to make it available.
